I have seen this movie countless times but last night, the scene that spoke loudest to me was Geena and her little girl locked in an icy freezer trying to start a fire. Have you ever found yourself surrounded by the very thing that threatens the one thing you are creating? Geena is doing what she knows – working hard, slinging a crow bar in a puddle of fuel to spark a fire. As she tearfully faces failure, her daughter realizes what her mom needs and miraculously pulls out a book of matches.
There are times in life when we have worked hard, done all we can, and it seems that it’s still not enough. Those moments create just enough space for life’s little miracles to occur. Sure a book of matches is quite common, until you don’t have one and your life depends on it. Yes, this scenario is a bit dramatic. After all it is an action flick. But what about those “lucky coincidences” that show up seemingly out of nowhere …and just in the nick of time? Ever found a dime when you were a dime short? Ever find the perfect parking spot in a full parking lot? I have, and if you think long enough I’d be willing to bet you have too.
Life’s little miracles show up more often than we may realize. We just have to remember to see them as such.
